Top of table clashes

3 11 2009

Last weekend’s most interesting league match was the top of the second division, or Unibet 1 Liga, clash between Gornik Zabrze and Widzew Lodz. The Silesians lost 0-1 to a Piotr Grzelczak goal, in front of 16,000 which many English clubs in the Championship would welcome.

Monday bullets

1 06 2009

Emmanuel_Olisadebe_Kolton_3062081It’s Monday and I’m still depressed with what happened on Saturday with Gornik Zabrze, but, it’s finally hit me and i can now move on and just hope for the best. We’re a second division club and I have to accept that fact for at least one season. During the summer break, Polishsoca.com (currently getting re-build) and the Soca Soul blog, we’ll provide fans with all the news, rumors and opinions on Polish soccer all over the globe.  Here’s some of the stories from Poland and Polish players abroad from the last few days- Read the rest of this entry »

Wisla Krakow wins Title; Gornik relegated

30 05 2009

wislaslaskI will begin by congratulating Wisla Krakow on becoming the champions of Polish soccer today, with a 2-0 win over Slask Wroclaw, Krakow wins it’s 13th league title in their history. I also want to congratulate the clubs who survived relegation. I usually try not to be biased, and anyone who reads my blogs can vouch for me that I try to speak about all the clubs and never hold a bias towards my team. It’s no secret that I’m a Gornik Zabrze supporter from birth and today, well, is a very sad day for me and the entire Gornik Zabrze community. For the first time in my life-time and the first time since 1978, Gornik Zabrze is getting relegated to the second division and they only have themselves to blame. Read the rest of this entry »

From Ernest Pol stadium…. 2-0 Gornik Zabrze

18 04 2009

dsc09722Hey, me again, again writing from Gliwice. Just returned from the derby between Gornik Zabrze and Polonia Bytom. Not sure if it’s the bias in me since i just spend about 3-hours at Ernest Pol stadium, or if it’s just the beer talking, but seeing Adam Banas live was incredible. I have no idea why Leo Beenhakker hasn’t called him up yet to the national team. Banas seriously reminds me of Jaap Stam. Tough central defender. Always in great position, never giving up on any play, doesn’t lose any battle, he is loud and is really a true leader, in fact he was the captain today since Sebestian Nowak was out injured. And he scores clutch goals. The guy is one of the best footballers that I remember seeing play in Poland. Sure, over the computer as I watch weekly he looks solid too, but seeing him live was something else. Hope Beenhakker keeps his tabs on him, he is a true talent. Read the rest of this entry »

Ekstraklasa Round 21 Wrap-up

23 03 2009

Gornik Zabrze and Legia Warsaw started the weekend off on Friday in a 0-0 draw. Legia outplayed Henryk Kasperczak’s squad but were unable to connect on a goal, in a game watched by national team coach Leo Beenhakker. Zabrze’s goalkeeper Sebastian Nowak played a great game and was the main reason why Gornik got a very valuable point.  On Saturday, Ruch Chorzow’s struggled continued as they lost yet again, 1-0, to Odra Wodzislaw and Lech Poznan still has troubles scoring goals, as they tied Arka Gydnia 0-0. Wisla Krakow after being down 1-0 at half-time to Cracovia in the Krakow derby, had an offensive attack in the second half, scoring four goals. Here’s the rest from the weekend from the ekstraklasa. Wisla Krakow will be just fine without Brozek

19 03 2009

The show must go on. As Wisla Krakow prepare for this Sunday’s Krakow derby against Cracovia Krakow, they are doing it without star player Pawel Brozek who injured himself last weekend against GKS Belchatow and could miss the remainder of the season. Many have already written Wisla off the title chase, however, I don’t see it that way. I think Wisla Krakow is still a strong team. Sure, they will have more troubles scoring, but everyone will change the way they play. From coaching, to the defense to the forwards, everyone will play a bit different to adjust to missing Brozek from the squad. Read the rest of this entry »
