Smuda not off to a good start

20 11 2009

Stefan Majewski was granted a gift of a lifetime, a two match interview by PZPN. To show the Polish federation that he can be the top man for the national team as coach. Like Leo Beenhakker’s final games, the offense under Majewski was still non-existent. And thus, the world-wide search for his successor began. PZPN interviewed many coaches, both domestic and foreign, and found the best candidate to take over was former Lech Poznan boss Franz Smuda. Read the rest of this entry »

A disciplinarian with self-discipline needed

The inevitable happened of course and only those who believe in miracles could have expected anything else. Poland has a bit of a break as they host lowly ranked San Marino squad, who is only dressing two professionals. Poland should win easily, which would move them up in the standings to atleast a 2nd place tie. Read the rest of this entry »

Back from the future (past?) with Poland

13 10 2008

After the ridiculous training session, I believed Poland would gain little from facing the Czech Republic on Saturday. Seems I was wrong, as Poland did the unthinkable just like they did 2 years ago, defeat a world class team. Like against Portugal, Poland took control of the match early on and pressured until the score was 2:0 in favor for them. Indeed, something that you don’t see everyday from the Bialo-czerwoni, such as beautiful collective passing, and defending. Yes, the defense did have a good game. The Polish defense, which embarrassed itself in two major tournaments before made itself look like a brick wall at times. I was shocked and impressed as everyone when I witnessed this. This game truly was a flash of the past!
