It’s been a while since i last checked in with some news and notes around the Polish league. Honestly, not much has happened since my last post on transfers around the Polish league and abroad. Most of the attention has been on the national team but there have been some news of note last few days that I figured i’d get everyone up to date on the happenings in Polish soccer.
Brozek to stay with Wisla Krakow? It appears that Pawel Brozek, top player for Wisla Krakow, will remain with the club. Krakow has been trying to sell the striker but no offers have arrived of their liking and are now likely to keep the star strik
er, this according to “Gazeta Krakowska”. The newspaper claims Brozek will be sold in the winter if Krakow does not qualify for the Champions League. Good news for Krakow, but not so good news for NT fans. Brozek, like several other top players, need to get out of the Polish league and test their talents on the European level. Brozek has achieved everything in the Polish league. Now he needs a promotion to a bigger and better club.
Lechia Gdansk wants Mieciel. VfL Bochum striker Marcin Mieciel says he is interested in returning to Lechia Gdansk, who have shown interest in him. The 33-year old former national team player started his career with Lechia, but most notably made his name with Legia Warsaw where he scored 51 goals in 173 matches from 1994 to 2001. Mieciel was also a star with Greek side PAOK where in 2006/07 season he scored 14 goals in 27 matches and was voted the clubs “Most Valuable Player” that season. Mieciel admits he also has an offer from a Greek side.
“Komo” new manager of Gornik Zabrze? Gornik Zabrze is getting very close to naming their new manager and it seems like they finally may be getting it right. After years of spending money in wrong direction, looks like Gornik may hire Ryszard Komornicki as new manager. “Komo” formally played for Zabrze from 1983 to 1989, where he scored 35 goals in 182 matches. Most recently he’s been manager of FC Aarau of the Swiss league, and led them to a 5th place finish last season. A decision should be made by Sunday reports sport.pl.
German Champions want Stilic? Sport.pl is reporting that German Bundesliga champion VfL Wolfsburg have shown interest in Lech Poznan midfield Semir Stilic. According to the article, Lech is asking for $4 million Euro. It’s a great move for both i think. Stilic can move on to bigger and better things and Lech can use the money and sign at least three players of impact. It would also show young players that they can come to Poland and be sold when their value remains high. He did what he could for Lech, now it’s time for both to move on.
Glik and Kasprzik to remain with Piast Gliwice. “Gazeta Wyborcza” reports that Piast Gliwice defender Kamil Glik and goalkeeper Grzegorz Kasprzik will stay with Piast Gliwice for the 2009/10 season. Both players have been rumored heavily to be wanted by new Lech Poznan manager Jacek Zielinski, who replaced Franz Smuda. Glik is a strong central defender, a product of the Real Madrid youth system and still only 21-years old. Kasprzik was arguably the best goalkeeper in the Polish Ekstraklasa last season. Stopping the moves shows Piast is truly committed in completing in the Ekstraklasa, a very good sign for it’s fans.
Zahorski to Wroclaw? The fire-sale of just relegated Gornik Zabrze is soon to being. Several rumors i’ve heard has been Robert Szczot and Adam Banas to Polonia Warsaw, Grzegorz Bonin to Lech Poznan and Damian Gorawski to Ruch Chrozow. Now, slasksport.pl reports Slask Wroclaw is very interested in once a highly touted upcoming star Tomasz Zahorski. After a great first season with Gornik, and call-ups with the NT, who also saw some time at the 2006 Euro Cup, Zahorski had a disappointing season last year. Going into a more offensive system and under a new coach could do him wonders, like it did for Sebastian Mila. Off the record, my guess would be Banas ends up with Lech Poznan. They need a strong central defender and a leader and Banas would be perfect.

Brozek has to leave, for crying out loud how many more years will he stay in the EK and waist his talent??
