Goodbye World Cup, Goodbye Leo…?

28 03 2009

What can I say? Very bad game spiced with a lot of bad luck… I don’t want to say more: it is unpleasant to even think about, everything is pretty obvious and I believe you don’t want to read about it more you can read on our main site. Nobody likes eating sour grapes. The question now is, after we’re out of WC quals, what to do with Beenhakker?

Lukasz wrote it is “do or die” for Leo and I could not agree more. Now I’m pretty pissed after this disgraceful result, so my opinion is probably influenced by emotions (and by some beer to be frank with you). However, even when I try to cool my nerves, I think it is about time for Leo… I wonder if has on his mind the words of some famous song by The Clash: “should I stay or should I go?“. What’s on his mind?

I say, if he has some pride, he should resign now. There’s nothing more to do with WC quals, the challenge is gone. He had his good moments. Now he failed. Or maybe his players failed him, it doesn’t matter. It is time to build team anew, with a new coach. No bad feelings here, he gave this team his heart and, probably, some health too. He remained loyal when a lot of people were against him. Fair play to him and a large bow for ‘farewell’. I think that firing coaches too often, typical in Polish football, is bad for teams. However, sticking to a coach against all odds is bad as well. It is a perfect moment for changes. If we say now “it’s a setback, but let’s keep on working” it would be a ‘message’ to players and staff that they’ve done well. We should not send messages like this to a team that has obviously serious problem with motivating. In no way. But, there’s a question: who to replace Leo with? There was a gossip about the ‘grand return of Engel’ lately. Please, someone tell me it’s a joke… I think that if a foreign coach generally done well, we shoud stick to that. It’s the next task for Grzegorz Lato to do his job and find a decent replacement. There’s a basis to build on, some young players to construct the team around. Like Robert Lewandowski, even if he played poorly today.

I wonder how many of you ask yourself the same question: about Leo Beenhakker reign at Polish NT. I bet a lot of us do. I don’t want to write more, it’d be probably wise to think it over. Because, as I said before, this post is emotional in some way. Still, for now I don’t believe I will change my mind. I defended Leo on occassions, now I say: time to go. What will happen? Stay with polishsoca.com to find answers.

P.S. The only thing that made me happy on the day, was Jelen’s goal. Exactly what I hoped for. Of course, it is lame consolation and he played far from his potential, but who didn’t today? I hope Jelen becomes an integral part of the team. We need him.

Very good article. Btw, props on “the Jelen Show”. He didn’t disappoint.

As for next coach, I am still for Peter Nowak. I liked our experiment with a foreign coach, but I think we should get back to a Polish blooded coach and I do not want Engel back, and I do not want Smuda.

Yes, Nowak is a good choice. And I do not consider him a ‘Polish coach’. I meant coaches from our backyard like Engel. The only Polish coach I’d trust is Smuda, but I doubt he’d get a needed dose of respect (apart from Lech players).

Its hard for Beenhakker to manage a squad when half the players take bribes to throw the games.

The guys who started the game should be embarrassed to show their faces in public.

As for the next coach, it really does not matter. Lato will appoint one of his homeboys. It will have nothing to do with credentials. Lato is looking to be a puppet master. That is why he clashed with Beenhakker.

I don’t see the point of another foreign coach simply due to the fact that the national team players refused to communicate with Beenhakker properly. Perfect example was Jelen, he does not want to learn another language. The universal football language is not enough when you are dealing with retards. I saw the recent interview with Jelen and he couldn’t even speak Polish properly. The whole team did not really care to listen to Beenhakker and try to understand what he tried to tell them. Kuszczak’s attitude summed it all up. “I’m from Manchester United, who the fuck are you?”

Retards are in every team (Fabregas for example), you don’t have to be bright to play soccer. As for Jelen’s language skills, he simply has speech defect and had it since I remember.
I also think that Lato will hand inn the management to one of his pupils. We should not worry abou players being retards, but a retarded FA president – that is something to worry about.

Don’t I feel like a douche. I didn’t know about Jelen’s speech impediment. My blood is still boiling by the outcome and the weak effort of the entire team.
