The time machine

30 12 2008

Welcome after a Christmas break, lads. My gluttony came to an end and I’m back. With some thoughts-you-would-probably-not-like-to-hear. During this Christmas fever I had little time to follow soccer news, but I ran into a gossip (which sadly occurred to be something more than a gossip) that paralyzed me for a few seconds and left with a feeling of disgust.

You could read it as well at polishsoca.com. They want to sack Leo Beenhakker in January… At first I thought this is such an ridiculous idea, that I ignored the story. But more of it followed. When Leo himself admitted he would like to coach in Ekstraklasa, I realized this stuff has a solid background. And here my disgust came in. I wanted to throw up all those pierogi, carp, cakes and cabbage I managed to put into my stomach somehow during Xmas. What the hell is wrong with this people?

They are short of memory or what? I know there are people who would like him to go within the fans. No offense, but you might be short of memory as well. Lets try to bring back some facts about our NT from the past. Overrated aging players being the core of the team, @!#tty tactics, lack of passion on the pitch. I don’t want to exaggerate, lads, we had some success, but if you can, get some old videos and watch closely. This is different style, different approach. And all of it will fade away… I believe Leo Beenhakker needs more time to inoculate modern thought into our soccer. So his influence would spread forward and the next coaches could make a better use of it. If we want to keep modernizing our football and bringing fresh air, he should stay. Take into account that all he did, he did with a lack of support, or sometimes anti-support, from the PZPN. The results he achieved are of second importance. The fresh and progressive style that he brought has crucial meaning. And it’s not the right time to sack him. Michal Listkiewicz felt the same way when he offered Leo new contract till World Cup tournament.

I say, sacking Leo Beenhakker now is like entering the time machine and pulling a lever that says BACKWARDS. Thus, I am sad. However, it is possible that Leo himself wants to make way for new coach. Maybe he’s tired of people spitting in his face. If so, I see one replacement for him. Franz Smuda is the man. He’s in the spotlight now, but some of you who follow Polish soccer for some more seasons, probably remember that he was one of the best for a long time. He’s the only person that could ease my pain after Leo’s departure. As we probably won’t approach Hiddink

In the meanwhile, have a look… Imagine this without Leo? Anyone?

I would hate to see Leo sacked or leave the NT due to the difficulties with the lack of support from the PZPN. It does not make sense to get rid of him; the idea must be based on politics and corruption that still plagues the PZPN.

Yes… that and the majority in the PZPN do not like Leo

Objectively, Leo is just another piece of bulldust. He is a pretender who does not work hard enough to succeed at the highest level.
