PZPN: Shit happends, deal with it

3 10 2008

As some of you have already known, the PZPN has been stirring up trouble again. Basically the Polish government has become fed up with the corrupt BS that happens in the PZPN, and they tried to do something about it. By taking away presidential power from Michal Listkiewicz, and installing their own admin they have broken FIFA/UEFA rules. Now the two head football federations are threatening that the government give Mr. Listkiewicz his power back, or basically were *****.

FIFA/UEFA don’t approve of any governmental intervention, and refuse to recognize the new head, Robert Zawlocki. If the original president isn’t returned to power by October 6, then Poland is suspended from all football competitions. This means that Lech who recently qualified for the UEFA cup will be kicked out! Oh and did I mention we risk losing the rights to EURO 2012 because of this!? No joke. Basically, Listkiewicz and his cronies know their little plans are out, but he’s still refusing to give up just yet. Instead, he’s calling in some favors from his buddies down in Switzerland to bail him out of this sticky mess. So in a way, FIFA/UEFA aren’t against corruption, and are actually for it (or are corrupt themselves) if they side with Listkiewicz. Yeah, sad. A similar situation like this already happened before EURO 2008, except the guy investigating Listkiewicz for corruption was actually corrupt himself and was later arrested. Big surprise, no? No! Unfortunately not in Poland.

Now I’d rather not go too deep into this, and stick to football instead.

Lukasz Sosin managed to get 64 minutes for Anorthosis Famagusta against Panathinaikos. This Champions League match day 2 was the best result a Pole got, as Anorthosis won 3:1 away. Shocking victory, and kudos to them.

Mariusz Lewandowski on the other hand showed up very late on the pitch against Barcelona. He came on at extra time, and provided (or did) little to stop Barcelona winning the game, 2:1.

A Pole who actually deserved praise for his actions in the Champions League is Artur Boruc. He played brilliantly, and pulled some difficult moves to save Celtic from more then a one nill defeat. Villarreal pushed, and pushed but had little luck, bad for them as their were dominating the game. A pity that he let in one goal, but if it were someone else in Celtics net, it would have been more. Good to see this kind of play from Artie, the better for our national team.

And finally Blazej Nowak debuted for McLaughlin college. He managed to finally find a place on the starting roster after being away for 2 games. Wearing the #7, he providing a few nice touches, but in the end he still showed he is out of form and needs more time.

Oh, and this may not be about football but what the hey. Warsaw local police have found and captured the man believed to attack the Legia Warsaw chairman, Leszek Miklas. The 45-year-old man ambushed a meeting last week with Ekstraklasa S.A head officials and attacked Miklas. Not physically of course, but with a cake. A tasty assualt indeed. There has been an outgoing stuggle between Legia officials and their fans since last season. Fans don’t show up to games, the ones that do don’t cheer, and among other situations where Legia fans try to keep their distance away from the club. The attack on Miklas was a sign of things to come, as mentioned by some hardcore fans. With Legia being sponsored by the Polish company ITI, fans who see this sponsorship deal as “evil” and “destroying the club” will keep up their protests until something is done.
